Yellowroot Farm

Yellowroot Farm is a biodynamic, CSA farm which encompasses 1.5 acres at Earthaven both in the Hut Hamlet Neighborhood as well as a plot near Hidden Valley Road. We are using a rotational system of animals, cover crops, and annual vegetables. This year we have joined a collective of local farmers, Foothills Family Farms, and hope to continue to expand on our passion for fermentation through value added food processing.

Yellowroot is a plant that grows abundantly along Taylor Creek (the major creek flowing beside our farm).  We love this plant because of its beauty and its medicinal value.  Some know the plant as "poor person's goldenseal".

We sell our produce primarily through our CSA as well as at local farmer's markets in Asheville, Black Mountain, and Marion. Rainbow chard is pictured here in bunches ready for pickup by CSA members.

Our Practices:
We are a biodynamic and organic farm (although not yet certified); we honor and plant according to the cycles of the moon; we focus on soil fertility by using nettle and comfrey compost teas as well as special biodynamic preparations such homeopathic remedies, intended to enhance the soil.

Yellowroot Farm Pigs

We raise pigs, as part of our integrated farm plan, for meat and soil fertility. We've been amazed at their ability to transform waste areas into land ripe for cultivation by rooting and turning over soil super effectively.

Our pigs and chickens are humanely-raised, free-range, and fed homemade and homegrown feed as much as possible.
