Earthaven's Neighborhoods
Earthaven has 14 planned neighborhoods of from three to eight homesites each. Some neighborhoods have developed sites and homes; others are in the early stages of development or not developed yet. The layout of Earthaven's neighborhoods is illustrated on these maps. Below are brief descriptions of each neighborhood.
Gateway. Gently south-facing slopes near the entrance to Earthaven and adjacent to a lumberyard site, with common agricultural land and nearby leaseable agricultural fields, intended for farmers, growers, and raisers of livestock.
Main Street. South-facing slopes in a mixed-use business-residential neighborhood with several existing businesses (Wood Den, Earthcrafted, Communities magazine) on the road leading to the center of the village, about a five-minute walk away. No common agricultural land. Four sites developed; three homes/businesses so far. |
Hut Hamlet. Offering temporary housing as people build permanent homes in other Earthaven neighborhoods, the Hut Hamlet has south-facing slopes in the center of the village not far from the Council Hall, White Owl Lodge, and Trading Post General Store and Internet Cafe. Currently seven small huts and one three-household residence, plus a central kitchen/dining room and shower facilities. |
Village Central and Hickory Knob. Earthaven's central "downtown," with some homesites potentially available. Village Central is the site of the Council Hall (and future Earthaven Kitchen/Dining Room and village green), while Hickory Knob holds the White Owl Lodge, the Trading Post General Store and Internet Cafe, and (under construction) the Earthaven School of Natural Building. |
Village Terraces. A family-friendly cohousing neighborhood on a flat terrace
on a gentle north slope (with solar access) near the center of the village. Common
agricultural land. Residents focus on good communication skills, honoring
their bodies, and health. The first building has shared common space, individual
apartments, and the offices of Red Moon Herbs. Seeking more individuals and
families for the neighborhood's next multi-household building. |
Hickory Knob Compact Sites. Smaller sites on gently north-facing slopes (with solar access) near the center of the village between Hickory Knob and Village Terraces. No common agricultural land.
